Varmala preservation resin frame — handcrafted wedding keepsake by Giftistan

Varmala preservation is one of those rare gifts where the meaning is already built in — the actual flowers from your wedding day, preserved in resin, framed as wall art. It's not a new idea, but doing it well takes time and care. This guide walks through exactly how we preserve varmalas at Giftistan, how much lead time to allow, and what the finished piece looks like.

Start with the flowers — timing matters

The single biggest factor in quality is when the flowers reach us. Roses and marigolds hold colour best when dried within 48 hours of the ceremony. If that's not possible, we can still work with flowers up to a week old, but you'll see colour mellowing — which some couples actually prefer, since it reads as ‘aged keepsake’.

  • Day of / day after wedding — ideal. Flowers at their most vibrant.
  • 2–5 days after wedding — good. Slight colour softening.
  • 6–10 days after wedding — workable. Expect a vintage-rose palette.
  • Past 10 days — case-by-case. WhatsApp us photos first.

The drying process

We use silica-gel bead desiccation — the industry standard for preserving flower structure while removing moisture. It takes 7–10 days depending on humidity. During this period we photograph the flowers weekly and share progress so you can see the piece take shape. The alternative methods (air-drying, press-drying) don't preserve the three-dimensional shape resin preservation needs — so we avoid them.

Frame options and sizes

Varmala preservation frames come in three standard sizes with a range of finishes. The piece scales with how many flowers you had in the garland.

  • Compact (8×8 inch) — single-garland preservation, wall or desk.
  • Standard (12×12 inch) — the most popular size, accommodates both varmalas arranged together.
  • Large (16×20 inch) — full display of both garlands with surrounding gold-leaf detailing.

Personalisation and detailing

Beyond the flowers themselves, we can add a range of personal details inside the resin — each one is optional.

  • Couple names in gold calligraphy at the top or bottom.
  • Wedding date in metallic foil.
  • A small piece of the wedding card or invitation clipped into the resin.
  • Gold leaf flakes scattered through the piece for shimmer.
  • A short ayah or quote along one edge.

Full timeline from ceremony to delivery

This is the realistic timeline if you're planning to preserve a varmala from an upcoming wedding.

  • Before the wedding: tell us the date, share flower colour preferences.
  • Day of wedding: we provide shipping instructions for sending the flowers.
  • Week 1–2 post-wedding: drying phase.
  • Week 2–3: design mockup approval with you via WhatsApp.
  • Week 3–4: resin pour, cure, finishing.
  • Week 5: frame, gift-wrap, dispatch.
  • Week 5–6: delivered to your door via courier.

Care and longevity

Fully cured UV resin is waterproof, scratch-resistant, and UV-stable. A framed varmala preservation piece will stay vibrant for decades. To keep it at its best, hang it out of direct sunlight, dust it with a dry cloth, and avoid moving it with the glass down. Unlike dried-flower displays that degrade over a few years, a resin preservation piece is effectively permanent.
